Ringworm, Calamine and Clotrimazole

Recently I was infected with ringworm on my right sole.

Ringworm

According to Wikipedia, Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin in humans and domestic animals such as sheep and cattle. Those that cause parasitic infection feed on keratin, the material found in the outer layer of skin, hair and nails. When you are infected, you will find the affected area is a ring of redness. If it is not treated properly another ring will form beside the ring that has healed. I used calamine cream, initially it was working fine but after sometime it was not effective any more.

Calamine

As reported in Wikipedia, calamine is a mixture of zinc oxide with about 0.5% iron oxide. It is used to treat pruritis (itching of the skin) such as sunburn, eczema, rashes, insect bites and stings. It is also used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected areas. However, I find that the cream is not effective for the treatment of ringworm and later I changed to clotrimazole.

Clotrimazole

From Wikipedia, it is stated that it is an antifungal medication commonly used in the treatment of fungal infections of both humans and animals such as vaginal yeast infections and ringworm. This is the right medicine for me. I was completely healed after applying the cream just for a few days.

Use clotrimazole for the effective treatment of ringworm.
